When we first met Karl Hall in 2024, he wanted to support BIKE AID as a mechanic at races. We knew that he enjoyed riding himself and had competed in swimming at a high level when he was younger. At that point, nobody was thinking that there might be a future professional cyclist standing in front of us.
During the winter, Karl travelled to Monaco with Matthias Schnapka to visit Antoine Berlin and discuss plans for the upcoming season. Naturally, they also went riding. Together with Antoine and a few WorldTour professionals, Karl headed into the mountains around Nice.
That was the first moment we started to wonder.
Karl had no problem keeping up on the climbs, and descending, he handled his bike with a confidence we had not expected either.
Only then did he tell us his story.
A Talent That Had to Wait
Karl had already shown considerable talent as a young cyclist and had been accepted into a cycling academy. But then an immune system disorder forced him to stop competitive sport altogether.
For the time being, his dream of racing was over. But clearly, it had never completely disappeared.
During that trip, Karl suddenly found himself standing next to Tadej Pogačar in the harbour of Monaco. You did not need to ask many questions. The look in his eyes made it obvious how much cycling still meant to him and that his own ambitions were still there.
Karl spent the 2025 season on the other side of professional cycling. He accompanied BIKE AID to numerous races as a mechanic, prepared the bikes and supported our riders behind the scenes.
But he still wanted to race himself.
Then Everything Happened Quickly
Over the winter, Karl's health improved and his doctors finally gave him the green light to return to competitive sport.
He started training seriously, and within just a few months, the mechanic had become one of Germany's strongest amateur riders. He impressed in the German Cycling Bundesliga, took his first victories and quickly showed that the talent people had seen in him years earlier was still there.
For us, the conclusion was simple: Karl had been held back for years by his health. Now he deserves the opportunity to find out how far his talent can take him.
BIKE AID is giving him that chance.
Now Karl Is on the Start Line Himself
For the remainder of the season, Karl Hall will join the BIKE AID professional team as a stagiaire and get his first opportunities to compete in international professional races.
He will not have to wait long. At the end of this week, he heads to France for La Polynormande, followed by the demanding Tour du Limousin.
Last season, Karl was standing beside the BIKE AID team bus at races like these, preparing the bikes for our professional riders.
Now he gets a race number himself.
Nobody knows yet how far this journey will take him. And that is exactly why he deserves the chance.
