Joonas Purraid Wears the Sprint Jersey in Limousin
The Tour du Limousin has been one of France’s major stage races for decades. WorldTour teams on the start line, daily live coverage on Eurosport and France TV, and four demanding days of racing through central France.
Joonas Purraid fought his way into the sprint jersey on the opening stage and wore it for two days. A remarkable performance for a rider in his first year out of the junior ranks, especially after an Epstein-Barr virus infection kept Joonas from getting properly into his season for a long time.
On stage three, his energy was finally gone and he had to abandon the race. Nevertheless, two days in the sprint jersey at a major European professional race is a strong performance.
Nahom Efriem Competes with the U23 World Elite
Nahom Efriem returned to Europe on August 13. Three days later, he lined up with BIKE AID at La Polynormande before travelling directly to the Tour de l’Avenir.
Often described as the Tour de France for U23 riders, the race brings together the biggest young talents in international cycling year after year.
Nahom is racing his first season outside the junior ranks. But he is doing far more than simply taking part: for three consecutive stages, he has consistently finished around the Top 20.
BIKE AID gave Nahom the opportunity to make the step from Eritrea into international professional cycling. Now, at one of the world’s most important races for young riders, he is showing that he can compete with the best U23 riders.
Developing Talent and Giving It an International Stage
Joonas and Nahom were still juniors just one year ago. Today, they are already holding their own in races on some of cycling’s biggest international stages.
Two days in the sprint jersey at the Tour du Limousin and consistent Top 20 finishes at the Tour de l’Avenir are more than individual results. They show how quickly both riders have made the step up to this level.
Debuts for Berg and Hall
Stagiaire Karl Hall and new signing Gabriel Berg also raced in the BIKE AID jersey for the first time in France. For Karl, it was his first UCI race ever, while for Gabriel it marked a new step in a young career that has already taken an unusual path.
It was a demanding start for both riders. Nevertheless, they finished their races solidly and did important work for the team.
